A Little About Us
I am a graduate of the New York School of Dog Grooming in Manhattan, where the emphasis is on hand scissoring. At Stonyhill Shepherds, we offer this service in addition to regular clipping. Hand scissoring, which can be used on most breeds, means that a pair of scissors is used by hand to style the dog’s coat. Although it is more costly, the advantage of the technique is it gives the coat a much nicer finish and it can hide conformation faults. Stonyhill Shepherds only grooms pet dogs, not dogs for the breed show ring. However, we like to offer our customers a choice.
Where Does the Stonyhill Shepherds Name Come From?
Some people might wonder why a groomer would name their business “Stonyhill Shepherds.” First, we are located in the Stony Hill area of Bethel. Second, and most important, the German Shepherd Dog is my favorite breed of dog. Ever since my parents gave me my first German Shepherd puppy for my thirteenth birthday, I have been a great fan. I currently own two male shepherds. Over the years I have earned obedience titles with different dogs in AKC recognized shows.
Puppies have always been my favorite to groom. Because they are wiggly, fresh, and afraid of everything, they just take longer to groom. Many groomers do not take the time to train them. I use my extensive experience training my own puppies for the obedience show ring to teach new puppies how to sit, stand, and behave on the grooming table. This enables them to be more relaxed and look forward to their next grooming visit.
